In my 5th grade classroom, we use a math review series that is engaging and entertaining at the same time. In essence they are simply half-page handouts with ten standards based math problems woven into a special picture or exciting scene. Remember, I want to keep the math review time quick, but effective. My students are engaged in the activity because they are always eager to find out what the next scene will be, and how the math problems will be nestled within. They also like how within each handout I inscribe the title in a way that fits with the theme of that particular scene - another attention catching technique. And since this review activity only takes about fifteen minutes of class time, it is quick yet extremely beneficial.
Worksheets are slowly becoming an important tool of learning for little children. Nowadays, worksheets are planned and created by many companies, publishers and schools. Some sell these worksheets both online and off line and others let people download them from the internet. Since there are so many worksheets available in the market, it may be difficult for parents to know which the appropriate and right worksheet is for their child. This article will take you through the basic elements of a good worksheet for children. Creating a worksheet requires a lot of planning and research. Things like the purpose of the worksheet, the age group for which it is being created and the resources available to solve the worksheets should be considered.
There are several standard exercises which train students to convert percentages, decimals and fractions. Converting percentage to decimals for example is actually as simple as moving the decimal point two places to the left and losing the percent sign %. Thus 89% is equal to 0.89. Expressed in fraction, that would be 89/100. When you drill kids to do this often enough, they learn to do conversion almost instinctively. Ratios and proportions are likewise wonderful math lessons with plenty of interesting practical applications. If three pans of pizza, one kilo of spaghetti, two buckets of chicken can properly feed 20 hungry friends, then how much pizza, spaghetti and chicken does mom need to prepare for birthday party with 30 kids? Would not it be great if your child learned how to mathematically figure this out? To help train him, start by giving him lots of free math worksheets!
